The Quiet Artist ISFP-AS personality type

A variant of ISFP

Unbothered on the surface, and underneath too

ISFP-AS: The Artist who stays steady under pressure and works it out alone: of the four, the one who goes for a walk, comes back with an answer and mentions it later.

ISFP-AS personality type, illustrated: A man in his late fifties of Japanese descent wears a soft navy overshirt over a faded terracotta tee, with salt-and-pepper hair brushed back and wire-frame glasses.

What the ISFP-AS personality is like

Steady and Self-reliant on top of the Artist: things take a while to reach you, and you work them out with your own hands. The deadline lands and you put the kettle on, put a record on, and start on the part you can touch.

Under pressure

Pressure slows you down in a way that looks like nothing. Your shoulders stay where they were. You pick one small thing, do it well, then pick the next. Colleagues who are running in circles glance over and find you sanding the edge of the problem.

It isn't a mask. The thing really does take time to reach you, and when it does, it arrives as a clear next step rather than a wave.

When something goes wrong

You go off on your own and use your hands: a long walk, a repair, a meal for one, a drawing that has nothing to do with it. Somewhere in there the answer turns up. You mention it to someone afterward, if at all.

The ones close to you hear that something was wrong in the past tense. Sometimes it was a job, or a friendship, and the decision was made before anyone knew there was one to make.

How the two fit

Calm and solitary, you sit inside a hard week without becoming it. The cost: you drift out rather than say, and the other side hears once it's settled, which stings more than the news. The Sunday Artist cooks with a friend, the Night Artist makes something of it, the Vivid Artist texts mid-feeling.
