The Quiet Poet INFP-AS personality type

A variant of INFP

Made tea. Wrote three lines. None about the week

INFP-AS: The Poet who stays level under pressure and works it out alone: goes to the notebook first and tells it as a story once it has an ending.

INFP-AS personality type, illustrated: A man in his late twenties of South Asian descent, with close-cropped curls and a soft gray overshirt over a cream tee, is absorbed in writing with a fountain pen in a closed notebook held near his chest.

What the INFP-AS personality is like

Steady and Self-reliant on top of the Poet: things reach you slowly, and when they do, you take them to the notebook. The week came apart, and what you did was make tea, sit by the window and write three lines, none of them about the week.

Under pressure

Pressure makes you narrow and exact. A deadline moves up, you cut the task to the next piece you can finish, finish it, then start the one after. Your pace barely changes, which can read as drifting.

Inside, it's quiet and a little far off, as if the problem were in the next room. From there you see it clearly. People who need a visible reaction to believe you've started don't get one.

When something goes wrong

When something goes wrong, you don't announce it. You walk, you write, you wait until it has turned into something you can look at. By the time anyone hears, it's a story with a middle and an end, told with a half-smile.

First you work out what you feel, then what it means, then what to do. Sometimes the last step is small: one message, one no.

How the two fit

Of the four Poets, you stay in the weather without filing a report on it. The cost: the people you love meet the processed version. The raw hour, where you might have liked company, happened behind a shut door. The Sunday Poet tells a friend early; the Night Poet feels it alone in the dark; the Tender Poet feels it with someone.
