The Tender Poet INFP-TC personality type

A variant of INFP

A four-minute voice note that began with "sorry"

INFP-TC: The Poet who feels things fast and fully and says them to someone: honest in the room, a voice note away from a friend.

INFP-TC personality type, illustrated: A man in his mid-fifties of Middle Eastern descent, with salt-and-pepper wavy hair and a muted teal pullover, holds a phone as if sending a long voice note to someone just beyond the frame.

What the INFP-TC personality is like

Sensitive and Collaborative on top of the Poet: things reach you fast and fully, and you need someone to hear it. It's eleven at night, and you've sent a friend a voice note four minutes long that begins "sorry, this is a lot" and is exactly as much as it needed to be.

Under pressure

Pressure reaches you quickly, and it shows. Your voice wobbles, you say "this is too much for me" without dressing it, and the people near you know where you stand. Many find that honest, and it gives them permission.

Inside it's tender, bright and loud, and your first move is toward someone. The feeling moves through because you let it out.

When something goes wrong

When something goes wrong, you reach for people. Two, maybe three, in turn: the one who listens, the one who makes you laugh, the one who tells you straight. You need to be heard before anything else helps, and the telling is where the relief happens.

Then you tell it again. Each time it settles a little, and by the fourth it sounds like a story.

How the two fit

Of the four Poets, you make feelings easy to say aloud. The cost: the telling is the relief, so the thing is felt again at each retelling. Three tellings later you're still in it, and you pay a day. The Quiet Poet takes it to the notebook; the Sunday Poet to the porch; the Night Poet to the dark.
